Join Instructor John Hauger, a devoted fan of music and history, as he brings Irving Berlin’s remarkable story to life. His enthusiasm and perspective make this class both engaging and memorable.
Irving Berlin achieved what few other American song writers were able to. A familiar quote about Berlin says, He could "reach the heart of the average American" whom he saw as the "real soul of the country." His gift for both lyrics and melodies was unsurpassed. Song titles like “A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody” were also appealing and easy to remember. His career spanned over 60 years in which he composed an estimated 1,500 songs. His love for his adopted country, the United States, is evident in not only his music but his tireless involvement in both World Wars. Join us as we look at Berlin’s family and life while we listen to many of his songs.
