All ages are invited to attend this talk about the history of girl detectives throughout children's literature including Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and more!
Which female literary icon has inspired female U.S. Supreme Court Justices, Congresswomen, Governors, business leaders, and countless other women to dream big and think quick? Why, that’s Nancy Drew, of course. This brave, smart, and savvy girl detective has been solving mysteries and catching criminals since 1930. Join historian Valerie Marvin to investigate the origins of Nancy Drew, and her fellow girl detectives Trixie Belden, Cherry Ames, and Judy Bolton. Along the way we’ll try to solve, in good girl detective fashion, four vexing questions.
What are the girl sleuths’ historical origins?
Who created the girl sleuths?
Who are the other girl sleuths? (besides Nancy)
Why do they resonate so with their readers?
Don’t forget your magnifying glass and bobby pins (for picking locks, of course)!
All ages are invited to attend this program, and we'll have a special giveaway of a Nancy Drew book set for kids ages 14 and younger!
