Have you ever wondered how filmmakers around the world use artistic and stylistic techniques to tell stories? Or how films' artistic qualities affect the way we make sense of their narratives?
This class will explore these questions by examining filmmaking practices like editing, cinematography, mise-en-scene, lighting, performance, and sound. Using clips and examples ranging from popular Hollywood blockbuster to international art films, we will shed light on those aspects of story and style that make films special. By the end of this class, you will be able to better articulate exactly why you love your favorite movie so much and point out elements of film style in everything you watch.
