This series complements the Writing with the Trees of Childhood workshop series.
April 30: Welcome to Waterloo and You
Join Park Interpreter, Zach O’Dell, on a 1.5-mile guided hike through 5 unique ecosystems to better
understand the requirements of survival. By connecting to each habitat participants will be able to ground
their memories in the tangible world by revisiting numerous tree species.
May 14: Art Exposure in the Wild
Join Park Interpreter Zach O’Dell, on a creative experience that will introduce participants to historical
and contemporary art forms and challenge participants to see the natural world through a different lens.
May 28: Storytelling
Join Park Interpreter Zach O’Dell, around a crackling fire and listen to stories from nature including
Indigenous peoples’ stories, folk tales, and contemporary tellings. Participants will be encouraged to see
the shared experiences across the world through nature.
June 11: Observation
In the last installment of the Mindfulness Hikes series, join Park Interpreter Zach O’Dell, on a sensory-focused
hike. Explore the world around us using all five senses to experience the bounty of Michigan’s plants in a
new way.
