Children ages 6 to 11 are invited to create a self portrait on tinfoil and a frame for the portrait on two consecutive Wednesdays. Attendance of both activities is recommended.
Frida Kahlo bought a reverse glass painting from a market in Oaxaca, Mexico. She then placed a self-portrait, which was painted on a sheet of aluminum, into this reverse-painted glass frame that was originally intended to house a mirror, photograph, or religious image. This mixed medium creation, out of old and new art, is called The Frame.
Join art teacher Rebekah Start on Wednesday February 9th and 16th explore the art of The Frame. Ms. Start will teach you about Frida Kahlo's art as she helps you create your own.
February 9: Paint your self portrait on a sheet of tin foil! Learn about Frida Kahlo's style of painting as you learn to create your own masterpiece.
February 16: Time to create the frame! Explore the Mexican folk art style painting flowers and plants on your self portrait's frame.
