McKune RoomJoin John Rose, Special Education & Communication Lecturer from EMU, for an informative session on the history and assement of, and current discussions surrounding, autism.
Whether you have a loved one with autism, work with people with autism, or are just looking to learn more, this session is for you. Mr. Rose will cover a variety of topics, including:
- historical treatment of autism
- the increase in autism diganoses and possible causes
- autism assessments, augmentative communication, and services
- current hot topics such as Person First Language and whether or not autism should be cured
This class is offered in partnership with the Adult Learners Institute of Chelsea. Registeration is required.
Presenter Biography
John Rose is a Full-Time Lecturer at Eastern Michigan University Department of Special Education & Communication Sciences and Disorders. Mr.Rose is also the faculty advisor for the EMU Chapter of Best Buddies and the EMU Chapter of Special Olympics Unified Sports. Mr.Rose worked for 40 years at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District as a Teacher Consultant, Classroom Teacher and Teacher Assistant. Some recognition/ Awards -2025 Gold Medallion nomination for faculty advising. -2019 EMU Women’s Soccer Team’s MVP (Most Valuable Professor Award) -2018 Services for Blind Persons Achievement Honor Roll award -2017 C David Anderson Award from the Michigan Transition Services Award -2002 ARC of Michigan Teacher of the Year Award Mr. Rose is passionate about providing inclusive opportunities for young adult students with developmental disabilities.

The Chelsea District Library is a single branch library serving the City of Chelsea and surrounding townships. The library has 4 small study rooms, one medium meeting room, and the McKune room, our main programming room.
